Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
I suppose I must have been about seven - I remember being fascinated by the brightly coloured american comics on sale at the corner shop and finally, after many weeks, persuaded my nan to buy me one of these extremely expensive (1/10 I think) wonders. The comic I chose was "Justice League of America" and it was utterly fantastic. Packed with exciting adventures featuring outlandish characters such as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern etc., but my favourite of all was Hawkman. He never took the starring roles but to me he was the epitome of super-cool. Timed passed - eventually my interest in comics waned and the fortunes of superheroes took their own courses. Some characters such as Superman, Batman, Spiderman etc., became billion dollar franchises whereas others faded into obscurity. When the Coconut Blues Club announced the superhero challenge I felt I needed to find Hawkman again. This song tells the story of that rather awkward reunion - but from his point of view. Actually he seems a bit of a moaner - I think I'm glad I dumped him ;)
Lyrics
Hey there kid fancy seeing you here Ain't seen your face in many a long year What was it brought you back to look At my old comic book? Maybe things are not going so good? Maybe this is your second childhood? meaning you finally understood The cry of the Hawkman No wait, don't go, I'm no good at this stuff Truth is I've had it tough When the glory and the fame dies down Someone still has to protect this town Well I guess that's the way it's meant to be Guess that's the point of a secret identity Superhuman but condemned to be Unsung forever Before I go to do what I must do Can I ask this one small thing of you? Don't forget me Remember the times we had Good triumphing over bad The way it should be Don't forget me Or the days that we had back then We can have them back again Just say the word Great times back in that day The heady days of the JLA I was right at the very hub Even had my own fan club But now in the shadow of the Great Detective Except for the occasional retrospective Harking back to the Golden Age I'm barely seen on the printed page But kid I could be great again With you as my faithful plainclothed friend You're a little grey but none will mind Once they see the Hawkman flying The world will marvel to see me there Proudly taking to the air Villains quaking with despair At the cry of the Hawkman Before I go to do what I must do There's one small thing I need from you... Don't forget me Remember the times we had Good triumphing over bad The way it should be Don't forget me Or the days that we had back then We can have them back again Just say the word Say you heard The cry of the Hawkman

awesome rocker!
Once again, Seth, you prove how highly brilliant and musical are The Smivets! The word AWESOME hardly fits this SUPER DUPER HERO SONG! Even though I seldom mettle with metal (ha) - love it - but can't fully "get into it" as player - but always listen with admiration and wonder to sounds of the magnificent level as your "The Cry of the Hawkman". Thanks for the tune pleasure, and for the dl to our JBBQ Best of Best Music Player. Bob

I was looking forward to your contribution like always, Steve, and I did not get disappointed. You always find your own edge and you always back it up with stunning musical performances and top class lyrics. The lyrics for this is outstanding and so is the production. The sidechain effect creates a vibrating hypnotic feeling. Wow! You have super powers in music!

What a great take on the super hero theme ... linking the mind trip back to the old days as if the hero was dependent on your own memory. As always a great rocking song with music and vocals ... my favorite for the this challenge.

Nice sound, sorta 'Arctic Monkeys'-esque, but with better chops.

YEAH! Rockin me ears off SETH! LOVE this story line... Brilliant !!! Yeah , got me hoppin, n boppin to your magic ....!The Cry Of the Hawlkman Got me Jammin along instantly!! KILLER ROCKIN! JON:):):):)
This is melt-your-face fantastic, but what gets me is the unique perspective of the narrative. A very different spin on the theme. We make our heroes immortal, but what are they supposed to do once we no longer need them?

All songs by Smivets are so brilliantly composed and permormed with plenty of good taste and rock DNA ! Amazing guitar riffage and demolishing drum wall. Like the voice fx and kinda rap style-brit rock-prog fusion ? Chorus a most ! Brilliant my friend !
