Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
"Vultures!" The word, though barely whispered, carried so forcefully through the room that all those solemnly gathered around the bed were startled, as if the Master's lips were pressed to their ear. "Carrion birds!" "Waiting here drooling, waiting to strip morsels of flesh from my corpse, never daring to approach while I yet draw breath, just as you have always done" He began to laugh - an appalling metallic rattle like the digging of a shallow grave, and it seemed as if the laughter was more than just his voice - as if it were joined by a hellish chorus of unseen others. "What sincere elegy will you spout as you toss the clod - '... he was a good man'? Despite all our differences, I think we can all agree on one thing: I have NOT been a ... "good man". I have truly been an evil man. I have butchered fathers and children in their hundreds for my own gain and amusement. I have conducted every crime, every vileness and atrocity, spat in the face of every moral taboo, and I have revelled in it! And now..." The dessicated voice trailed off into emptiness. There was a long period of silence. The attendees started to shuffle imperceptibly, perhaps sensing the long awaited moment, none wanting to be the first to move, to call the medical staff back into the room. His eyes snapped open so suddenly it was if there was a sound. His face, a clearly visible skull covered with dry transparent papery skin, split like a rotting fruit into a hideous yellow grin, suffused with malice. "Well?" he mocked. "Master we..." "Are you familiar with the work of Dylan Thomas?" the whisper severed his acolyte's words like a surgical blade. "'Do not go gentle into that good night...', well I took his advice. Do not imagine for one second that my ... work ... will somehow end with my death. I do thank you all for your loyalty, you can draw comfort from the thought that this is what has delayed your betrayal until now, and I am so sorry to have to disappoint you..." Outside the faint sound of a bell could be heard ringing. And the laughing started again.
Lyrics
When the darkness falls, I'll be ready for it. When the horseman calls, I'll be waiting for him this time Don't be rubbing your hands at the thought of it Because when my time comes I'll be taking you down with me. Well I've cheated Death one too many times Felt the foetid breath of the Hounds at my neck Stayed one step ahead of those clutching cold hands But I guess the game eventually has to end And in the words of the Poet of Milkwood: I won't go gentle Because there's nothing about this night That's good. When the darkness falls, I'll be ready for it. When the horseman calls, I'll be waiting for him this time Don't be rubbing your hands at the thought of it Because when my time comes I'll be taking you down with me. Now the night bird sings in his ashen voice Urging darker demons to rise up on their leathery wings As that damn' bell rings And brings the proceedings to a close And all the secrets long kept hidden can't touch me now So I have given them To those who will hurt you with them See how my dead hand Reaches out to crush you From beyond the ungood night When the darkness falls, I'll be ready for it. When the horseman calls, I'll be waiting for him this time Don't be rubbing your hands at the thought of it Because when my time comes I'll be taking you down with me.

This bubbles like an overly hot witches brew. Rock with real attitude no matter its thematic implications. I find myself constantly a Smivets fan.

Progrocking horror! As always top class production, playing and singing. Really nice guitar tunes there and killer solo! Love the melodic feel in it. The minor chord progression has a doomsday feeling to it, fits well with theme. A favourite for sure, great work, Steve!

This is a complete extraordinary work Steve!! I read the foreword to the lyrics and so I could set my mind in the story and ambience: you really fit the story and mood perfectely. About composition, arrangement, mix, vocals and last but not least guitar skills I can only say...... FIRST CLASS Metal tune!! :)

I dig the 'in yer face' vocals from the get go, but it doesn't end there - some serious chops and Marshallistic guitar tone and riffage - well done mate!
A catchy, fantastic song. I like the background story as well, it adds another dimension and fleshes out the story. Love that solo!
