Singer-Songwriter with a Folkish vein of music
Born James Chapman Polhemus in Stuttgart Germany and brought up in the deep south (now residing in Hoover, AL), Chapmans insights into the development of a Folk Songwriter are unique. Whether it's the journey of a human trotting across the prairie, the epic life of a tree, the loneliness one needs to combat garden gnomes or a view of war through the eyes of a 4 year old boy; Chapman's songs are honest and simple. Three things stand out when he describes his music 1. The Inspiration for the Song: "A writer is not necessarily the one that shouts 'Hear Me!' (that's the performer talking) , but the one that listens and seems to whisper 'I heard you'." 2. Responsibility for the Song: "Just write what haunts you. If the song is good, the genre doesn't matter! Choosing among frames for artwork has never been my passion, that's for the talented producers & cover artists" 3. Reason for Writing the Song: "After having written my first song at the age of 12, I have finally found so many decades later the exact reasons I write songs. I write to remember. Once I have learned either a complex idea that I think is important to answer back to life, or a humorous perspective I want to recall to bring some levity to the insanity, I make a song out of it... selfish as it may seem I do it for me so this is why I share it and welcome everyone to the therapy session I call a 'Live Performance'. I write so the things I've learned become personal mantras instead of ending up lost like so many raindrops in an ocean. And, just maybe they'll shed a little light on what is to be expected from this seemingly insignificant species called human"... Feel free to record and/or rearrange these songs yourself....the more interpretations the merrier. Just like the shareware days of old, try to remember the creator if the creation brings you good fortune

Story behind the song
Viktor Frankl: "Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible."
Lyrics
Life Asks the Questions Words and Music by Alaina Elizabeth and Chapman James How will you weather the changes? Don't let it ponder away.... What is the meaning of sorrow? Which is the right way to pray? Where are the gods that will listen? Why does the anguish remain? When will the sanity find you? Can you really cope with this pain? CHORUS 1: Life asks the questions Every second we breath Our Lives are the answers Responding in deed Tangible moments Fall down in a stream of doubt and elation Currents of Lies Sweet drowning Laughter Cascading Pride Beloved and believed Shared and conceived... Alive What were the last words misspoken? Meaningless Suffering: Despair Devoured by the givers and users Does it take more than one soul to share? Forget about then for a moment What are you looking to find? Where is the heaven you hoped for? You can have it beyond any time CHORUS 2: Life asks the questions Don't be deceived Your life has the answer Responding in deed Tangible moments Laid down in a stream of doubt and elation Currents of Fear Sweet drowning Laughter Cascading Tears Beloved and believed Shared and conceived... Revered BRIDGE: Should we have come this far? Are we like others are? Shall we drink water or wine? Where will you go today? What would your father say? Are you really ready to shine? Do I have what it takes? Can I catch any breaks? Am I worth more than the sum? Why is the sky so dark? Which way points to the start? When will the happiness come? CHORUS 3: Life asks the questions Every second we breath Our lives are the answers Responding in deed Tangible moments Laid down in a stream of doubt and elation Currents of Lies Sweet drowning Laughter Cascading Pride Beloved and believed Shared and conceived... Alive While I'm Alive... Life asks the questions... How will you weather the changes? Don't let it ponder away.... Copyright 2008 Polhemusic.
