Story behind the song
Written as a love letter to our neighbourhood, from the point of view of someone who is saying good bye to a loved one who is moving on. The original version was released on the album Songs From The Greenhouse, this version was part re-recorded with more electric guitar and featured Carys Parfitt on drums and was subsequently released as a bonus track on the Grumpy Old EP in 2008.
Lyrics
When you come home, back to junction thirteen You’ll see the old familiar faces, in the same old places Who won’t know where the hell you’ve been When you return, home to junction thirteen We’ll go walking by the lake, and we can stay out late To watch them digging up our street, when you come home You can call me sentimental and, maybe I am But things ‘aint quite the same since you left town You’re the one thing that I really miss So treat this song as a good night kiss When you come back, home to junction thirteen They’ll be fighting in the street, the drunks and the police To celebrate the night in style When you come home, back to where I live I’ll greet you with a smile, and you can stay a while So we can watch the planes go by, when you come home So hurry home, back to junction thirteen To share some jokes with them travelling folks Or make a couple of your own I’ll still be here, down at junction thirteen You go round the roundabout, but check that I’m not out I wouldn’t want to miss the day when you come home.
